Eco Factor: Recycled furniture from Joel Hester.

In the name of recycling, old cars are usually shredded into pieces and metals and plastic are separated for further reuse. While it might seem to be a green idea, the energy used to re-convert the materials into a usable form comes from conventional sources, which in most cases aren’t ecofriendly. Artist and designer Joel Hester, has found a better way to recycle the carcasses without using much energy.

Joel’s artwork consists of tables, desks and cabinets made from authentic brands with rust and worn-out paint intact. The furniture is crafted by hand, which makes sure that they’re created without using and hence wasting much energy.

The Dark Side:

The furniture is not as glossy as one would really want for their homes. But considering that even new furniture has the same fate, it doesn’t seem to be a bad idea to use recycled furniture.
