Eco Factor: Zero-emission PCM material is recyclable and green.

Dry ice is not a new constituent in shipment, particularly of perishables and other goods that need to be kept well below their freezing temperature. It is now being considered a threat to the environment and some shipments have been restricted because of the use of dry ice, which emits carbon dioxide. Entropy Solutions, a Minneapolis-based thermal technology development company, has introduced a new variant of its patented PureTemp™ renewable phase change material (PCM) that is being touted to be a true alternative to dry ice, because of its ability to maintain a consistent payload temperature of -40°F.

Apart from being a sustainable replacement for dry ice, the PureTemp-40 can be used more than 20,000 times with no thermal degradation. Adding to its green credentials, the PCM material is made from 100% renewable, biodegradable and earth-friendly materials. The company has also claimed that the PureTemp is not restricted in any mode of transportation, as it is a part of the GREENBOX™ Thermal Management System. It can also be used with a wide variety of cargo items, including pharmaceuticals, plasma, clinical devices and even food items that need to be kept frozen throughout the shipment.
