Eco Factor: Solar-powered charger for portable devices.
GoBe Solar has launched a new Solar Briefcase and Power Hub, which the company claims can extend your laptop’s battery life for an estimated 3-6 hours. The device is a combination of a 12-pound suitcase carrying the solar panels and a 9-pound power hub that carries the batteries and the power sockets, which include AC, DC and USB outlets.
Apart from being an off-grid and renewable source of power, the device can also be charged using a conventional wall socket and used at an off-grid location. The hub can be fully charged by placing the suitcase under the sun for 10 hours, which perhaps is enough to charge your iPod a couple of times.
Pros aside, the device does have a couple of cons as well, the biggest of which is the overall weight of the package which will only be carried by avid gamers who prefer playing games on their laptops rather than watching the wonders of nature whenever they’re on a camp. Other than that the $349 + shipping price tag does seem a bit too much.
