Eco Factor: Newly discovered bowl-shaped molecule could refine carbon capture systems.
Though the actual research being conducted by Maryland scientists wasn’t to find out ways to help the planet, the result did surprise one and all. J.A. Tossell, accompanied by a team of scientists, has accidentally discovered a bowl-shaped molecule that has the ability to extract CO2 from thin air.
Tossell claims that the discovery has exciting new possibilities, including genetically engineering microbes to be used in next-gen CO2 catchers. The results were unexpected for the scientists as well, who found out that CO2 was being captured from ambient air by engineered molecules. Soon to realize the importance of the discovery, Tossell believes that the molecule might play a major role in removing CO2 from thin air, and can be used as an absorbent in electric power plants and smokestacks as well.
