Eco Factor: Electric paramotor used solar energy during the whole journey.
A paramotor flight has nothing to do with ataxia, a debilitating disease, but it deserves mention when it’s the longest ever solar powered flight carried out in order to spread awareness about the above mentioned disease. The Cardozos, a British family, and a group of friends set a new record by traveling a distance of 1,242 miles from Monte Carlo to Morocco in an electric paramotor powered by the sun. The journey was completed in 15 days. Among the fleet, there were three other paramotors powered by bioethanol and each of the others included 12 solar panels and lithium polymer batteries. With an average journey of 130 miles a day at a height of 5000 feet, the team traveled through France and Spain.
The expedition from Monte Carlo to Morocco was led by brother Gilo, an engineer who helped explorer Bear Grylls fly a powered paraglider over Mount Everest in 2007. Whatever was the cause behind such an adventurous expedition, but knowingly or unknowingly it has established a sustainable example for others.
