Eco Factor: Healthcare facility reuses water and generates renewable energy.
China’s Shunde Architectural Design Institute has teamed up with American HMC Architects to produce the first-of-its-kind healthcare facility in China. The proposal integrates the medicine and culture of the East with the innovations of the West under one functional roof.
To be situated in Foshan, China, the healthcare center will incorporate sustainability and provide efficient services for up to 1500 resident patients and 6000 outpatients each day. The facility will include “healing gardens” and the roof will be covered in photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy.
The entire hospital building will make use of non-toxic paints that limit indoor air contaminants. Natural ventilation and lighting will further reduce the building’s energy demands.
