Eco Factor: Recycling plant in UK generates energy from used diapers.
UK-based Versus Energy and Knowaste have partnered together to build the first diaper recycling plant in England that will be powered by sustainable energy generated from organic materials recovered in disposable diapers.
Organic waste accounts for just 2% of the materials in a disposable diaper, which will be used to generate energy. The other 98% will be dried, sterilized and separated into reusable paper pulp and plastic. Located in the town of West Bromwich, the new plant will try to ensure that diaper recycling doesn’t require energy from the grid and is a sustainable process.
