Eco Factor: Concept car powered by piezoelectric devices.
We’ve seen auto designers come up with unique solutions to end the dependence on polluting and scarce fossil fuels. While most of these designers rely on renewable energy being produced with onboard solar panels or even wind turbines in an extreme case, industrial designer Jung-Hoon Kim is trying out something extremely unique – piezoelectricity.
The designer has come up with a concept vehicle dubbed the P-Eco, which is powered by an all-electric engine driven by batteries that are charged with piezoelectric devices. The car is equipped with multiple chords that vibrate at a high frequency, whenever the vehicle is in motion, to produce electrical energy.
This energy produced by the system is used to top up the onboard batteries. The designer isn’t claiming that the harnessed piezoelectricity will be capable to fuel the vehicle on its own, but it will definitely increase the operating range of the vehicle to something more desirable.
