Eco Factor: Modular PV system equipped with micro-inverters.
One of the greatest barriers to mainstream solar adoption has been its complexity, since solar installation requires several additional systems including grid-tie inverters, mounting hardware and wiring. GreenRay Inc. is trying to ease solar installation with a system they claim to be the world’s first solar appliance.
Dubbed the SunSine AC, the solar appliance integrates the complex components of conventional solar power systems into modular, plug-and-play panels that can easily be installed. The SunSine AC module integrates a micro-inverter that converts the direct current (DC) produced by the panels into home-usable alternating current (AC) without the need for any specialized system.
The SunSine AC also features quick-connect AC cables and can snap into a specially designed roof mount. The system also offers better performance than conventional solar systems, whose performance can drop if even a single panel is shaded. The GreenRay Monitoring System lets homeowners track the performance of the overall PV system as well as each individual SunSine AC module. They can view status, system health and historical data.
