Eco Factor: Charging station powered by monocrystalline solar cells

After creating the impressive plug-in biodiesel hybrid Beetle in October 2009, the students at University of Kansas have come up with a fueling station for the car. The EcoHawks, as they call themselves have designed and constructed solar charging station by using six monocrystalline solar cells that are placed on the roof of their workshop.

The solar panels on the roof charge a battery bank, which juices up the green vehicles. Hard work of a few months to research on the installation and looking for the perfect components, plus a couple weeks toil to set the system in place, is what has let the team taste success.

Their system is capable of recharging two vehicles simultaneously. As of now, the new solar charging station is what the six students have to offer. But, they have plans to expand the infrastructure technologies by adding a wind turbine by next year.
