Eco Factor: LCD display with low power consumption.
The SID 2010 conference has witnessed many impressive technologies from Samsung, but the unveiling of an 18.5-inch LCD display truly stands out. We have seen numerous USB displays as of late and none of them exceeds the 7-inches limit. It seems Samsung is here to take it to next level with its latest LCD display that is not only bigger, but also consumes less power.
The new display consumes power as low as 6.3W, thanks to improved transmittance of the TN-mode panel and the luminance efficiency of the backlight. Exhibited at the company’s booth, the display functioned by its connection with a PC via a USB2.0 cable. The only dark side would be that it uses an edge-lit backlight that limits the device’s lifetime to 30,000 hours compared to 50,000 for existing LCD monitors. You can expect the LCD display hitting the market by 2011.
