Eco Factor: Sustainable design reduces urban heat and ensures ample daylight.
Copenhagen a city emerging as one of the greenest places in the world shall host a green neighborhood that redefines 21st century living. Called the Ørestad, the complex designed by Bjarke Ingels Group would be Denmark’s largest apartment building with both public and private places.
8 Tallet or 8 House notably stands at the center of the project.
Designed in the form of 8, the structure has been broken both horizontally and vertically to ensure plenty of sunlight thereby reducing significant burden on the grid. Green spaces on the roof and in the courtyard not only reduce the urban heat island effect but also provide visual relief to the inhabitants. 8 Tallet also has steps which transverse its roof providing exercise and expansive views of the adjacent plains of Amager.
To localize services for the residents the building has been divided into different horizontal layers for both habitation and retail. The apartments are situates on the top providing each living unit with ample day lighting while the commercial program unfolds at the base of the building.
