Eco factor: Eco Plus transport service would save nearly 5,250 tons of CO2 annually.
Ditching the good old way of shipping cars via ocean transport ships, Audi is setting new standards in logistics by using trains powered by green electricity to transport its cars. According to the new press release, the carmaker will ship its new cars from Ingolstadt up to Emden, on Germany’s North Sea coast using renewable energy powered trains. This innovative logistics concept will make Audi he first company in Germany to use green electricity in this way.
Audi ships nearly 150,000 cars each year. So using the Eco Plus transport service over conventional train shipping would mean saving nearly 5,250 tons of CO2 annually. The CO2-free rail freight transport concept Eco Plus can be viewed as a trailblazing step for the car industry and an important element for Audi to call itself “trailblazer in logistics”.
