Already touted as the ‘fastest complete performance bike in the world’, this wondrous conception is the fruit of the collaboration of exalted F1 car maker McLaren and eminent bike maker Specialized. The completed prototype was premiered in Milan this month.
The main intriguing feature of this bike is its specially streamlined form composed of high modulus FACT 12R carbon fiber frame. This custom technology supposedly being used in F1 race cars is expected to reduce the bike’s weight by around 15 percent. Hence the whole weight of the frame will stand around 2.07 kg, which is significantly light.
The components of the bike, like its bottom bracket, chainstays and seat tube, are manufactured as a single piece with continuous fiber sequence. This would provide enhanced power transfer and maximize strength. The seat-stays have a wing like cross-section, accentuating upon the aerodynamic quality of the bike. The bladed seatpost and fork also make the bike sleek enough to buzz through the cross winds, and that too in a zero emission mode for a change.
To be available to public in September this year, each unit is expected to fetch a relatively high price of around $8,021, at least in Britain.
