Backpacks are something that we are all familiar with, as a lot of us use them everyday. It is the perfect baggage while trekking or hiking. Breathing fresh air and waking up with nature is a perfect delight at most times. The only problem we face is the difficulty in contacting a loved one. Camping grounds are usually not known for their high cellular network coverage, added to that is the fact that there is no place to recharge our batteries.
Most people drain their batteries within a few hours of going camping and then they have no way to recharge their electronic devices, like mobiles, ipads etc.
Joel Lim YM has come up with a refreshing solution for this problem, the ‘Alppac’. The Alppac is a multipurpose backpack which uses a suspension load mechanism to generate electricity, while the user is walking. Basically, the friction and movement generated while the user is on the move, causes the various mechanical parts such as the suspension string, toothed rack, pinion gear and load plate to move in sequence. This in turn generates electricity via the connector to the charging pad, which is also located within the main backpack and is where the device is placed.
Alppac adopts a contact charging technology that utilizes magnetic fields to charge its electronics. Wireless and hassle-free.
Apart from providing the user with electricity to charge batteries, the Alppac has a storage compartment to store a First aid kit. This compartment is outside and below the main backpack, so it can be easily reached. The first aid compartment is made up of transparent pockets, which makes it easy to identify and pick out crucial equipment during an emergency. It also flips open to reveal extra storage.
The backpack can be split into two parts, the main pack and the day pack. The day pack is made up of neoprene fabric which allows for better storage capacity. A separate pouch within the pack makes it easier to store and organise varied items. The day pack is removable, which gives the user another option in case of a smaller trip. Not to mention, a lighter load.
To conclude, the Alppac is one essential commodity for all those who love to backpack and also carry their gadgets.
