Haven’t seen something like this before; a sports car that is also a zero emission car, which comes with a whole package of goodness with it (both performance and conscience wise). With looks to die for, Lightning electric car has a ‘classic British sports car design and racing car technology’, the GT version has carbon fiber and Kevlar crafted bodywork, a complete eye candy. The most astonishing fact about this car is that it has no engine. Instead this super sports car is controlled by an electronically controlled traction control, which balances the car while it reaches the top speed of 130 mph and also negates wheel spin. Not to mention that this speeder zaps from zero to 62 mph in under four seconds.
The nanosafe batteries (perhaps being used for the first time in any EV), have a life expectancy of about 12 years that is nearly four times as much other battery used in any electric car and up to 85% of the charge capacity is retained even after 15,000 charges. Not only are they suitable for a varied climate (ranging from 75 degree Celsius and minus 30 degree Celsius, no toxins or heavy metals are used in making this bombshell.
I am really thinking whether this car is suit able for the city roads or the features that I have read till now, tell me that it is much suited to make long journeys short. Until I read information about regenerative breaks. That means when the breaks are applied to slow down the car, the motor works as generators, which actually recovers the cars energy while slowing down. Now that is interesting, because in busy city traffic, it’s difficult to maintain speed and with these breaks it actually rejuvenates. The cost of the car is £150,000 and the reservations for the cars to be delivered in 2008 are being taken right now.
